A First Look at Wii Fit Plus

Nintendo has announced a sequel to its massively successful “Wii Fit” game.  In this article, we’ll examine what’s new, what’s improved, and whether the new game is worth your time and money.

The idea of getting in shape by playing a computer game must have sounded like paradise to couch potatoes across the game-playing world. But when the original Wii Fit came along, they were no doubt disappointed to find out that they would actually have to sweat a bit to get the results. Nevertheless, the original game sold an enormous number of copies thanks to its balance board and wide range of exercises. Nintendo obviously knows when they’re onto something good, so they used E3 to introduce Wii Fit Plus, a sequel/follow-up with yet more options for the user.

Wii Fit Plus adds a decent number of new exercises and new yoga poses to the original list and also introduces more specific features for people who want to focus on particular fitness goals – a more toned stomach, for instance, or stronger arms. It’s almost like having a personal trainer, except that the Wii won’t shout at you if you miss a workout or get you out of bed at seven in the morning.

New activities include skateboarding, which is also Nintendo’s way of showing us how many ways the balance board can be used. For the user, it will be a nice way of pretending to be Tony Hawk without having to fracture or break everything in your body. The same goes for “Rhythm Kung Fu” – just substitute “Tony Hawk” for “Bruce Lee” and “break everything in your body” for “get punched in the face”.

Speaking of the balance board, the new game can be bought with it or without it if you already have one from the original game.

Some eighteen million people bought the original Wii Fit, and if even half as many pick up Wii Fit Plus, Nintendo will be laughing, stretching, running and jumping all the way to the bank.
